Turning :
It is the machining operation that produces cylindrical parts. In its basic form, it can be defined as the machining of an external surface, with the workpiece rotating, with a single-point cutting tool, and with the cutting tool feeding parallel to the axis of the workpiece and at a distance that will remove the outer surface of the work. The three primary factors in any basic turning operation are speed, feed, and depth of cut.

The lathe, is the basic turning machine and some other machines are turrets, capstans, traubs.

Milling:
A milling machine is a machine tool that cuts metal with a multiple-tooth cutting tool called a milling cutter. The workpiece is fastened to the milling machine table and is fed against the revolving milling cutter.   The milling cutters can have cutting teeth on the periphery or sides both. 

Milling machines can be classified as: 1) General Purpose machines - these are mainly the column and knee type (horizontal & vertical machines) 2) Special Purpose machines such as duplicating, profiling, rise and fall , rotary table ,planetary and double end types

Drilling & Tapping:
The drilling machine is a single purpose machine for the production of holes. The drill is a cylindrical bar with helical flutes and radial cutting edges at one end.  The drilling operation simply consists of rotating the drill and feeding it into the workpiece being drilled. 
Tapping is now becoming a promising process for internal threading of holes in non ferrous and ferrous solid components, more particularly for mass production in the automotive industry. The strength of the work material and the influence of the lubricant are the two main parameters affecting the process.
